A couple of superb saves late in the game denied a West Bowling fight back as Thornhill Lees lifted the County Sunday Cup for only the second time in their history.
 
West Bowling were quickest out of the blocks and when Chris Hanney netted the opening goal in the tenth minute, the Bradford side looked well in control but the goal fired Thornhill into action and when a corner was floated to the near post, Chris Gomersall climbed highest to head the equaliser into the top corner.
 
Thornhill had the ball in the net again minutes later but Referee Phil Bramley spotted a push and awarded a free kick to West Bowling.
 
Thornhill's second goal, which arrived a minute before the break, was due to West Bowlings failure to clear a free kick.  The ball rattled around the penalty area for an
eternity before falling at the feet of Nathan Kemp who happily placed a shot into the roof of the net from six yards.
 
Both sides were denied by the woodwork as the second half swung from end to end and only a couple of superb saves from Thornhill keeper Lee Hird prevented a West Bowling equaliser before Kemp struck his second to give Thornhill a vital two goal cushion with only five minutes of the games remaining.
 
West Bowling continued to cause problems but Thornhill held out to take the Sunday Cup for the first time since 1984.
