Cross Gates
Lions FC
| Cross Gates Lions FC were
formed in the spring of 2003 with the ideal of welcoming
children of all abilities to take part in football, both
training and playing. Children that, in some cases, may
not have had an opportunity to play football. |
Whilst winning
is an important part of football our policy from the start has
been to give all children the opportunity to play
competitively and to balance the emphasis on 'winning' with
development and including everyone. |
| |
| In the 2003 - 4
season we had one team at Under 10 playing in the Garforth
League and in 2004 - 5 we are again playing in the
Garforth League at 7-a-side at under 11. |
Whilst success on the football
field in terms of games won, in the first season, may not have been
high, we believe the very fact that the vast majority of the
children who started with us in 2003 are still with us and we have
new children still wishing to join means we have been successful in
what we set out to achieve. This season our performance on the
football pitch has improved and we see this as confirmation that our
policies have been correct. |
| Our objective
now is for the Club to continue to grow and to expand into
further age groups whilst still retaining the same
principles we began with. Attracting children to the
Club has not been a problem and we continue to do so, the
challenge now is for us to encourage more volunteers to help
with the running of the Club so we can give more children
the opportunity to play and be coached. |
| |
| The successes we
are most proud of are the noticeable development of the
children in confidence, ability and team work and
naturally, achieving Charter Standard. |
