Goole Town Girls
| Goole Town Girls was formed
out of a boys club – Goole Town Juniors who had considerable
success in the Hull Sunday Boys League. The number of boys
clubs in the area had meant that the teams were largely
fragmented and as nothing at all had been done for Girls
Football it was decided to help the girls in the Town and
surrounding area play football. |

The girls football
club was formed two and a half years ago during the era of the
film ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ a theme which we used to
advantage in our promotional material. |
| |
| Not surprisingly we
discovered at training that most of the girls had never kicked
a ball seriously before and that it meant a great challenge to
our coaches. |
In the first season we suffered some
heavy beatings with scores of 14-0 etc commonplace but gradually the
girls improved until recently when we have often matched the better
teams in the West & East Riding Leagues. |
| Currently we run 5
teams with 4 operating in the West Riding and 1- U14 team in
the East Riding |

| Success, came

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
Whilst football wise we are attached to the WRCFA politically we are
in the East Riding of Yorkshire and our club has been nominated as a
key partner in a big girls football development at Howden Senior
School where it is hoped to establish a Girls Centre with the aid of
Football Foundation funding with all weather training facilties
which will see us hopefully establish the centre for the area
including the Primary Schools as a real focal point for girls
development.
All in all the future looks rosy but we have been helped along the
way by the encouragement provided by the WRCFA and the West Riding
Girls League.
