The
ex. Leeds Utd and England hero was at the Pudsey Civic
Hall, not just to present the players with their trophies, but
also to present the club with their newly won FA Charter
Development Club Award |
| |
| Chairman
Ron Downs is rightly proud of the progress made since the
clubs formation in 1989 and talks enthusiastically of plans
for the future |
| "Pudsey
juniors are committed to providing junior football within the
local community. It is the intention of the club to develop
and grow from its existing solid foundation" |
| |

Pudsey Junior Football Club,
ironically, owes its existence to another sport. Late in
1989 Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club put out a rallying call for new
youngsters to join the club and the call was so loud that, not only
did they get more cricketers, but a football team was formed ! |
Today, with over 300 members, Pudsey
Juniors now boasts some 12 boys teams and 4 girls teams ranging from
6 to 16 years of age making this club one of the largest in the West
Riding
| The Club frankly
admits that the girls section was introduced through the
desire achieve Charter Development status, but it
immediately became obvious that the demand for Girls
football was higher than expected and plans are now in place
to develop both the Boys and Girls sections to give all
players a complete route through from junior to open age
