| WITH OVER 400 PLAYERS Shipley is one of the
biggest junior clubs in the area, but it was a different story
back in 1991 when a group of local parents got together to
provide somewhere for their children to play organised
football and a squad of just 15 players became the first
Shipley side. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
 |
This season the club is
running 14 7-a-side boys teams , 2 7-a-side girls teams, 15
11-a-side boys teams and a ladies 11-a-side team. The club has
also an Under 6's section with the emphasis on fun. |

| In 2001
Shipley became one of the first to achieve F.A Charter status and
the next obvious step was to become an 'F.A Charter Development
Club' which was achieved in July 2003. |

As part of
the qualifying process the club appointed a Child Protection
officer to ensure that all coaches and helpers were registered with
the F.A child protection scheme. |
|

|
|
| |
| The club also
currently boasts no fewer that 44 registered coaches who have
achieved FA Level 1 or above. |

Paul Whitehead said "The club can be proud of themselves
for achieving the award. Once again it shows we are going in the
right direction and still growing year by year. Our main aim
is to improve the facilities and we are now looking at a long term
project of building proper changing facilities at our Junior section
base". |

The clubs
main fundraising event is its annual 5-a-side tournament which
this year will be held at the Bradford and Bingley Sports Club.
There are competitions for Under 7's to Under 15's boys and for
girls Under 10's / 12's and 14's. Last years event attracted 252
teams with over 1700 players taking part. |

| |
The club
is also involved in the Bradford City Memorial Cup at Easter and
hosts players from the German team of Aplerbeck which is a district
of Dortmund at age groups Under 12's and 14's. The Shipley players
then go out to Aplerbeck in October, an exchange that has been going
for the last three years. |
