| Established in 1924 Uppermill FC
sits in one of the County's Southernmost points on the border
between Yorkshire and Lancashire. |
| |
| Over recent years the club has expanded
its' activities and now runs thirteen teams including senior, junior
and girls. |
| |
| Uppermill's determination to become a
progressive club means players are now looked after by no
fewer than 45 fully qualified coaches, all with First Aid, CRB &
Child Protection Certificates and all members of the WR Coaches
Association. |
| |
| Having achieved the Charter Standard
Community Club Award, Uppermill FC is now recognised by the FA as a
top level club at which anyone can enjoy their football in a safe
and quality environment. |
| |
| More recently the club has set up links
with local schools and Head of Youth Development & Girls
Football, Simon Tait, is naturally enthusiastic about the work done. |
 |
| "We have
been working with the local Primary and Secondary Schools, coaching,
running the Sport in the Community Project and Mini Soccer World Cup
Events (24 teams!) |
|
| We also organised
5 a side and had a rule that two girls had to be on the field at all
times, which kept everyone involved, and we also recruited a lot of
new players on the day, especially girls for u10 and u12 teams. |
| We were also
asked to coach the U12 and U14 Girls Teams for ‘Team Oldham’ in
the Manchester Youth Games which was an honour for the club." |
| |
| Girls football is another area where
the club is making great strides and Simon continues. |
| "We recently
did some sessions on Fridays for girls and got more than 80 new
recruits at each of the sessions, from 6 years old to 14 years old ! |
|
We had a lot of coaches involved too so it worked really well. From
one girls team last season we are looking at having 5 or 6 teams
next season ! Four of our girls were selected for the
Oldham Girls League Representative team v Tameside and they won 5-0
and all our girls played really well, only two of them had kicked a
ball before the season started !" |
| |
| Uppermill clearly mean business and
anyone looking for a good club to join should contact... |
