“The tournament offers the young people
the chance to play and learn at the same time. The Kick It Out
campaign is one we support every year as we feel there is a need for
the young people of Wakefield to have a chance to show they support
of such a great campaign. Tackling issues surrounding racism through
sport is a great way for the young people to learn and make
Wakefield a better place”. |

Young people in Wakefield can access information on positive
activities in their local area through www.wakiesworld.com,
which has been put together by Wakefield Youth Development and Support
Service.
Positive Futures is an intervention scheme, which targets young
people aged between 10 and 19 years. Sport is used as an engagement
tool to help improve young people’s lives.
The Wakefield Positive Futures Sports Project has four target areas
these are:
- Lupset
- Eastmoor
- Hemsworth
- Knottingley
Sessions are delivered weekly in the targeted communities by sports
coaches who deliver sessions in various sports. Workshops on health,
fitness, drugs awareness, sexual education and the consequences of
crime are also delivered. Young people are also offered opportunities
to gain sports qualifications and accreditations from the project.
The Wakefield Positive Futures Sports Project aims to:
- Encourage
the target communities to play sport together.

participation in sport by young people.
- Encourage
healthy lifestyles and reduce risk-taking behaviours.
