A Handy Cash Windfall |

|
Christmas has come early for Heckmondwike
Sports Club who received a cheque for over £2,000 to pay for new showers
and a fair play trophy.
The windfall came from the John Charles appeal, set up five years ago,
in memory of the legendary giant, who lived in Birkenshaw.
Charles, a welsh international, who played for Leeds United, Swansea and
Juventus, was acclaimed for his fair play.He was never sent off or
booked in a remarkable career.
Now the various sports who use the facility will be hoping to pick up
the John Charles Fair Play Trophy which will be presented to the young
person or nominated sports section who have upheld the principle of fair
play.
The young footballers from Norristhorpe Juniors (pictured above with
Kirklees MDC Deputy Mayor Andrew Palfreeman), who use the facilities,
will be doing their utmost to have a name from their ranks on the
trophy. Norristhorpe- affiliated to the WRCFA- continues to grow
as a club providing a competitive and enjoyable environment for young
players of the beautiful game.
