Girls Football Festival Success

A RECORD 65 SCHOOLS  from across the Leeds area came together at the South Leeds Stadium on 22 June for the St Bartholomews Cup

Organised by St Bartholomew's C of E Primary School the Cup has been running for the past five years and its popularity has risen in that time.

Over 600 girls between the ages of 9 and 11 took part in the competition which was organised by St Bartholomews PE Staff Collette Lawson, Jo Ward and David Needham who said.
"Coordinating a tournament on this scale takes months of planning.  Staff from the Schools, Referees (some had the day off from work and travelled from as far as Durham), and helpers and organisers from St Bartholomew's Primary School are needed to make it all work.  But it's all worth it in the end when when 65 schools turn up the make the event a massive success"

On the field the football played was of a very high standard.  Teams played in groups to progress to the knockout phase (last 16).

Field Head Carr Primary School were the eventual winners of the cup competition, narrowly beating Rothwell Primary School in a very close and exciting final.

The Trophy Presentation saw them lift the St Bartholomew's Girls' Cup and hold onto the Cup for a year.  Each player from Field Head Car won an individual trophy, as did the players from the Runners Up, Third Placed and Fourth Placed teams.  The Cup Competition proved to be a success on the day not just for everyone involved, but also for Girls' Football and School Sport in general.
