STRAWBERRY FIELDS PRIMARY  are the latest West Riding School to achieve the coveted Charter Development Award

The school was established in 2004 following the amalgamation of West Garforth Junior and Barleyhill Infant schools and within this first year the school has achieved the Activemark award for P.E and sport and recently became the third school in Leeds to achieve the F.A Charter Development Award for football.

In June 2002 a development programme was put into place, this involved; targeting younger children, promoting girls football, celebrating excellence and developing staff coaching skills.

This season the Year 5 and Year 6 children completed an unbeaten season and were successful in winning the Outer East Family of Schools Championship. A record number of children from the school have attended trials for Leeds Schools representative teams, with one Year 5 girl being selected for the very first all girls team. Several of the boys have made it to the final stages of the trials and are still working hard in their attempts to make next years squad.

Newly qualified teacher Matthew Keddie arrived at the school as a level 1 coach while Assistant Headteacher and manager of Leeds Schools U12s Nathan Atkinson successfully completed Level 2 in April of this year. Mr Keddie has since joined Leeds Schools in preparation for next season.

The school have recently established a strong link with local team Garforth Town F.C. The school have planned a number of innovative schemes with the club which will further enhance the provision of football and promote both Strawberry Fileds and Garforth Town Football Club.
