Gillette Bobby Moore
Fund Championship
18 May 2008
at Goals
Leeds
Kick Off
11:00
Only £100 Per Team
Open to all men aged over 18
Men across
Leeds
are being urged to put their five-a-side football skills to the test
and help tackle cancer at the same time.
A unique tournament bearing the name of
England
’s most successful captain will see finalists walk out onto the
hallowed turf of West Ham United’s Upton Park stadium.
And if that’s not enough of a goal to aim for, taking part in
the Gillette Bobby Moore Fund Championship will also raise vital
funds for research into bowel cancer.
Bowel cancer claimed the life of Bobby Moore, England’s 1966
World Cup winning captain, in 1993. He was aged just 51. Today,
bowel cancer is the second highest cause of cancer death in the
UK
, after only lung cancer, with 44 men and women dying from the
disease every day in the
UK
.
Progress is being made to find more effective treatments for the
disease but cancer research is expensive and vital funds are needed
to turn hope into cure. That’s why the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer
Research
UK
has teamed up with Gillette to launch a nationwide search for
England
’s best five-a-side team.
Teams need to enter now
to secure a place in regional heats taking place on Sunday May 18th
at Goals
Leeds
from
11am
.
In each heat, 30 teams will play against one another and then in
knockout matches, until the top team emerges. The victorious heat
teams will then get a one-off opportunity to play at Upton Park –
where Bobby Moore spent the majority of his football career playing
for West Ham - on Monday June 2, and compete to be the first team to
hold aloft the Bobby Moore Fund trophy.
It is hoped that the championship will raise £70,000 for
research into bowel cancer,
Registration costs £100 per team with a maximum of eight players
per team (five on the pitch at any one time) and each member will
receive a Bobby Moore commemorative t-shirt and goody bag.
