A brace from leading scorer Leon Walker helped West
Riding to a hard-fought, and much-needed, win against a
battling Liverpool team who were looking for their first
points of the season after defeats against North Riding
and
Cheshire
.

The visitors had most of the early play attacking the goal
at the clubhouse end but their neat approaches were not
matched by their ability to finish and slowly the home
side came more into the game resulting in Walker’s first
goal after 18 minutes when he finished off a good move
with a clinical shot into the roof of the net.
|
|
|
|
Liverpool were undaunted by this reverse and deservedly
equalized after 43 minutes through a goal from James
Robinson who coolly shot past West Riding goalkeeper Ben
Hazlett as he came out to narrow the angle.
|
|
|
|
The second half continued in the same vein until the last
quarter when the visitors seemed to tire as West Riding
piled on the pressure which resulted in a goal from Ben
Burnett followed by
Walker
’s second, both coming in the last seven minutes of the
game.
|
|
|
|
The win set up the home squad for their next game which is
a visit to Leicestershire & Rutland on the 13th
December in the 3rd Round of the FA County Youth Cup.

A goal after 2 minutes from Lee Turnbull gave West
Riding the perfect start and they added to their total
when Leon Walker got the first of his hat-trick with a
fine shot into to far corner.
|
|
|
|
Although Northumberland had plenty of possession they were
unable to trouble Liam Burton in the home goal and it was
Walker who pounced again shortly after the break with his
second.
|
|
|
|
The tie looked beyond the visitors now and
Walker
completed his threesome with a smart shot after the ball
came out to him from a goalmouth scramble.
|
|
|
|
There was still time for the home side to go nap as Adam
Dutson took advantage of the strong wind to score from 40
yards from a free kick in the dying minutes.
|
|
|
|
West Riding will now travel to the winners of the
Lincolnshire
v Leicestershire tie with the game having to be played by
the 21st December.
