Founded in 1970 by Annie Carrol, Katie Jagger, Dick Young and Marjorie
Alderson (the treasurer) Greetland only played friendly games until 1973
when they entered the Halifax Junior League at under 12 level. At that
time there were only U12's and U14's teams. Roy Barber became the club's
first Secretary in 1974.

Greetland won their first trophy in 1976 (the Bondina 6-a-side competition).
That summer the club took a coach full of U12's and U14's players to
Belgium
(funded by the boys own parents) where they took part in matches over a 3
day period.

Around this time Mick Beeby became involved with the Club and took on the

Sunday League.

The club had no base as such. Their committee meetings were held at the Rose
& Crown pub at Greetland. There were no changing facilities, so the boys
used a room below the local hairdressers to get changed.

In May 1984, Greetland Community Centre opened and the Boys Club moved in
along with Greetland AFC (open age team). Three years later in 1987, the
Council built more changing rooms alongside the Community Centre and started
to hire the facilities out to other clubs. This particular year Roy Barber
retired as Secretary. He has continued his association with the Club to this
very day and is currently the clubs President.

There have been many other people involved with the Junior Club at Greetland,
far too many to mention. The Club has grown from strength to strength and
currently have teams playing in leagues right trough from U7's to U16's.

Following the integration of girls into the sport the club recently changed
its name to
Greetland Goldstars
Junior Football Club (a name nominated by the boys and girls themselves).

For the past 2 years the club has been
working towards gaining the
FA Charter Standard
. It now has qualified coaches at all age groups, Child Protection
Contact person, Codes of conducts for players, parents, supporters and
coaches and a club development plan. Greetland is one of only 4 other clubs
in Calderdale to have gained the prestigious Charter Standard and is very
proud of its achievement. This shows players and parents both existing and
new that the club is run in a professional manner, by qualified personal.

The club is working alongside Calderdale
Leisure in Action in trying to develop a U12’s girl’s team for the new
season and sees girl’s football as a fast growing part of football.
Greetland Goldstars
is also trying to forge better links with local schools and will be
arranging a schools tournament in the Autumn. The club continues to grow and
has already got a waiting list of players for next seasons under 7’s.
There is also a well visited web site Greetland-goldstars.co.uk and an
e-mail
address of Greetland.goldstars@tesco.net
where details of the club can be found.
