COUNTY YOUTH U18

The County u18 Youth Team is a representative team selected from players who play for clubs within the West Riding County FA boundaries or were born within the boundaries and who are not  registered as an  Academy or School of Excellence player with any professional club.

Over the years several players who have represented the County have gone on to join professional clubs, the most noticeable being Peter 'Hotshot' Lorimer who became famous with Leeds United and Scotland with the most recent being Leigh Bromby who is currently  with Sheffield Wednesday.

The team plays in two competitions each season, the FA County Youth Cup, which is a straight knockout competition involving the 42 other County FA's in the country and the Association of Northern Counties Competition, which is run on a league basis. The 10 Counties which make up the Association of Northern Counties are drawn bi-annually into two groups of five, with each County playing 4 league matches per season, 2 at home and 2 away in the 1st year, reversing the fixtures the  following year. The top two teams in each group at the end of each season then play off in the semi-finals to determine the finalists.

In addition to the formal matches, several friendly matches are arranged in the early part of the season against other County sides and local club sides in order to assist in the selection process and for match practice before the formal fixtures.

The team plays all its home fixtures at the County FA HQ ground at Woodlesford, Leeds

u18 REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS

Paul Walker and Dominic Riordan became the latest in a select group of players to be 'capped' by the West Riding County FA to commemorate their 10th appearances for the u18 County Representative team.

The players were formally presented with their caps by Mr Albert Murphy, Cumberland County FA's representative on the Football Association Council, after the county's recent match at Cumberland.

Caps are awarded to those players who are selected in the 16 players on the team sheets in 10 formal matches for the youth side. The formal matches are those league fixtures in the Northern Counties supplemented by  matches in the FA County Youth Cup.

Since the inception of the award of a cap for 10 appearances in 1995, only 20 players have been so honoured. Dominic joins his elder brother, James, who was a member of the highly successful squad of 1997/98, in the list.

The picture shows Paul and Dominic sporting their caps with West Riding County FA  Youth Committee Chairman, Mr Bob Secker.
